The Phasmatid Fan Club
Dear Phasmid fans!
Hello my name is Stephen, I’ve been interested in stick and leaf insects for over 14 years now, I was introduced to them while I was doing some voluntary work at The Australian Museum (Sydney) and have been breeding and studying them ever since. Those of you who know these delightful creatures, will discover even more fascinating features by having them living in your home or school.
If you have not had the pleasure of meeting these creatures before then you are in for some real surprises, by just watching them, the way they move or if you are more scientific, you can do egg counts (the female is believed to lay over a thousand eggs) or time the period between moulting, in any case just having a different and unusual pet will promote interest from your family and friends, so you and others will discover more about these wonderful creatures and about insects in general.
What is the Phasmatid Fan Club?
At present there is not enough interest to form an official Society, if the interest grows then that can be looked into at a later date. For now I propose that we keep in contact with each other, helping all of us to better understand these delightful creatures. What I would like to do is have meetings at various locations around Sydney a couple of times a year where kids and adults can come together in a fun and entertaining way to discover more about them.
If any one has ideas, suggestions or can give some time, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
