Insects are the most diverse of all animals on earth! Their are over 1 million named species and estimates of up to 30 million species. We are only just discovering the true value of these amazing and fascinating animals living in our environment.
Aim: Show the diversity of insects and other invertebrates.
Presentation: Choose from either of the environmental educational programs below.
1). Bug Man’s Bug Box
Present a range of live insects, spiders and other invertebrates showing the differences in morphology and the environments (habitats) in which they live (Duration 1 hour).
2). Collection and Identification
Looking at the biodiversity of insects and spiders.
* Power point presentation showing the biodiversity of insects and spiders.
* Examination of an insect collection covering several orders (groups).
* Students collect their own insects to identify and classify to order (Duration 3 hours).
Conclusion: Our Environment is very unique with various habitats that support numerous animals and plants (Biodiversity) therefore giving rise to the need to look after our environment. Insects being one of the most diverse and one of the most important groups on earth; for without insects their would be no us (humans).
